The color coding follows the official Dar Al Maarifah / King Fahad Complex standard for the color-coded Tajweed Mushaf. 28 Tajweed rules are divided into 4 color groups: Red (Madd/elongation), Gray (not pronounced), Light Blue (Qalqalah) and Green (Ghunnah/nasalization).

Necessary elongation of 6 vowels (approx. half a second each).
Obligatory elongation of 4-5 vowels — uninterrupted, separate and long connection.
Permissible elongation of 2, 4 or 6 vowels.
Normal elongation of 2 vowels.
The assimilated ل in 'ال' before sun letters is not pronounced, e.g. (الشَّمْس) is read without ل.
The Noon in (كَأَن لَّمْ) is not pronounced and read like (كَأَلَّمْ). Idgham without nasal sound with ل or ر.
Echo/reverberation — a slight bouncing sound on certain letters (د ج ب ط ق) with Sukūn or at verse end, e.g. (لقد).
Hidden articulation: ن sākin or Tanwīn before certain letters is nasalized (2 vowels), e.g. (أَن تَخْشَوْه).
Nasal sound on stressed ن or م with Shadda (ّ), held for 2 vowels, e.g. (فَإِنَّهم), (مِمَّا).
Conversion: ن sākin or Tanwīn before ب becomes nasalized م, e.g. (مِن بَعْد) is read like (مِمْبَعد).
Assimilation with nasal sound: ن sākin or Tanwīn before و م ن ي is merged and nasalized.
